TARA Preparation for Schools

Preparing students for competitive university admissions

Our TARA preparation sessions are designed for independent schools seeking expert, externally delivered training for Year 12 pupils who are applying to university courses that require that TARA admissions test.

Delivered by experienced Economics educators, with an extensive knowledge of successfully preparing students for the university admissions process, our sessions are designed to complement your existing university preparation provision and equip your students with the techniques, confidence and preparation strategies needed to approach the exam effectively.

What to Expect

Complimentary initial consultation (video call)

We begin with a complimentary consultation, working closely with your school to understand:

  • The number of students involved
  • Existing familiarity with the TARA exam
  • Preferred session structure and frequency
  • Timing within the university admissions calendar

Following an initial discussion, we provide a tailored proposal outlining the recommended structure, delivery format and session schedule, ensuring that sessions are aligned with your schools wider university preparation strategy.

Next Steps After the Initial Consultation

Most schools choose between one and three sessions, depending on the level of support required. Sessions are delivered by both Chris P and Chris T, both Oxford-educated, and with a similarly aspirational approach to the teaching of Economics.

A typical session structure includes:

Critical thinking workshops

Problem-solving sessions

Essay preparation and strategy

Consolidation or top up sessions closer to the exam

Typically, students are divided into two smaller groups, allowing each tutor to focus on a specific component of the TARA preparation sessions before rotating. This structure enables more targeted teaching, greater interaction and more focused support within a smaller group setting.

We recognise that every school is different and as such the flexibility that we offer ensures that sessions are adapted around your existing provision and aligns with your organisational goals.

Benefits for schools

Partnering with an external specialist Economics tuition provider offers a number of advantages for schools.

Specialist expertise and reduced staff burden

Delivering effective TARA preparation sessions requires familiarity with the exam structure, question styles and overall assessment approach. Our sessions allow schools to provide high-quality specialist preparation without placing additional pressure on teaching staff or university admissions teams.

Increased student engagement

As an external party, we find that our sessions often bring additional authority and focus to the process, encouraging pupils to engage with the preparation and better understand the demands of the TARA exam.

Flexible and adaptable delivery

We recognise that every school is different and as such the flexibility that we offer ensures that sessions are adapted around your existing provision and aligns with your organisational goals.

Alignment with existing university preparation

Our service is designed to complement, not replace, the work already being done within your schools, integrating naturally into broader Oxbridge and competitive university admissions support that offers added value to your students.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

The TARA exam differs significantly from the standard assessments that your students have experienced before as they require students to think critically, solve unfamiliar problems and communicate arguments clearly under the immense pressure of an exam environment.

Our sessions help pupils:

Understand the structure and demands of the exam

Develop strategies for different question types

Improve timing and exam technique

Build confidence through guided practice

Gain realistic insight into the level of challenge involved

Importantly, early exposure to the TARA exam allows pupils to understand the amount and type of preparation required, helping them approach the process with greater clarity and confidence.

The aim is not simply short-term performance improvement, but the development of stronger critical thinking and problem-solving skills that support wider academic success.

Every student will also receive a comprehensive resource pack that includes past paper questions, worked examples and model methods and approaches to aid in their preparation beyond our sessions with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions do schools typically book with you?

Most of the schools that we work with choose between one and three sessions. This is generally sufficient to introduce pupils to the TARA exam structure, develop core techniques and provide guidance for independent study beyond the sessions.

I’m an international school, can I book your services?

Absolutely. Whilst we prefer to deliver sessions face-to-face, we appreciate that this isn’t possible for international schools. As such we can successfully deliver our TARA preparation sessions online at your convenience.

Do you offer formal marking / assessment?

Formal marking is not typically included in our sessions, although informal assessment and feedback are built in. Optional baseline testing can also be arranged if requested by the school.

Can sessions be delivered outside normal school hours?

Yes. We offer flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends where required.

Do the sessions include 1-on-1 training, or is it group based?

Sessions are typically delivered in a group format, as opposed to 1-on-1 tuition. However students will benefit from the expertise of 2 specialist Economics tutors and are usually divided into smaller groups focusing on a specific component, before rotating. This structure enables more target teaching.

What is the cost of these sessions?

Costs can vary according to the number and frequency of the sessions. We offer a complimentary initial consultation via video call, in which we establish your school’s requirements to enable us to provide you with a more detailed roadmap and cost.
